I see many listings saying Buffalo / Bison teeth. American Bison (the big, fuzzy Thunder Beasts of North America) ARE NOT buffalo.
Buffalo are a different species from Bison.
American Bison are divided into two groups. Plains Bison (Bison bison bison) and Wood Bison (Bison bison athabascae).
Buffalo are African Buffalo and Water Buffalo.
Though their teeth look similar, there are differences (not only in the price).
Bison teeth have a slight indent right where the tooth meets the gum. Kind of like it has a waist. Buffalo teeth do not have this indent but may have a slight ridge in front at the same location.
If you want to purchase buffalo teeth for Native crafts as they are so much cheaper, that is fine.
But don't be fooled by the descriptions on ebay that you are getting real bison teeth when in fact the seller may be unaware of the difference.
