As I drive along in my personal vehicle I often notice the small percent of drivers that fail to properly have their seat belt fastened. I myself find it unbelievable how any human can be in a moving vehicle without a seat belt properly fastened. After all, in the event of an accident what's holding your body back from being violently propelled to the windshield?
When two vehicles collide head-on, the impact on each vehicle is the equivalent of the combined impact speed of both vehicles. For example, if two cars travelling at 65 km/h and collided head on, it would be the equivalent of either vehicle striking an immovable brick wall at 130 km/h. Now picture your body hitting a brick wall at that speed. It will certainly result in a major injury if not death.
The most famous vehicular death of the 20th Century is that of Lady Diana. The speed estimated by crash analysts was between 120-130 km/h upon impact and only one of the four occupants was wearing their seat belt> & he lived!
Appr. 60 % of all fatal accidents are as a result of a failure to buckle up. It takes a mere second to buckle up saving you and your loved ones a lifetime of grief. Trust me I know, I've been a police officer for 24 years and I've seen death time and time again at accidents where people fail to have had their seat belts on. Please don't be a dummy............buckle up!
