Brugmansia Seed Germinating Tips
When planting Brugmansia seeds we face several options.
1. You can just plant them. Lay the seed on top of your germinating mix. Then cover with 1/4" to 1/2" of soil. Moisten the top of the soil and move the pot to a warm place to wait for germination. You must keep the soil slightly moist until the seeds sprout. When the seeds start germinate in about 3 weeks some of them might still have the cork that was surrounding the seed embryo. Mist them to keep them moist and the seedling will eventually free itself. If the cork becmose stuck you will have to remove it manually. Be careful not to damage the seedling. Try not to hold the seedling between your fingers.
2. The next method is to soak the seeds for 24-48 hours. Now follow the planting directions in section 1 and you will be on your way to having Brugmansia babies. The advantage to soaking the seed is that you will have less cork stuck to your seedlings.
3. The next method is to soak the seeds for 24-48 hours. Then carefully peel the cork off of the seed embryo. Now follow the planting directions in section 1 and you will be on your way to having Brugmansia babies. The advantage to removing the cork is that it will not be stuck to your seedlings.
I do recommend taking some if not all of the cork off of the seeds after you soak them. It takes time but it is worth it. You can try both. I always leave it on some when I get tired of removing the seedcoats.
When your seedlings grow their first true set of leaves not the original 2 but the next 2 you can transplant them into an individual container. Remember to be careful when doing this. Try to avoid holding the plant by its stem. You can hold it by the leaf or leaves.
