If you've never tried wooden knitting needles then there is no better company to try than Brittany. They're a small, family-run business that makes the best needles out there. Currently made of New England white birch, you'll be amazed at how light and comfortable they are. If you suffer from arthritus, then wooden needles are perfect, as they dont draw out heat from your fingers. These needles nurture your hands, and in turn, your hands nourish the wood. Brittany knitting needles are incredibly smooth and consistant in calibration. The wood comes from strictly regulated forests or small woodland owners to ensure proper environmental practices. The beautiful art deco final does not interfere with your grip, doesnt get caught in your delicate project, and makes for a beautiful conversation piece. You'll want to collect the whole set. Brittany single point needles come in two lengths, 10" and 14". They also make double points and cable needles in a variety of lengths and sizes.
Previous to Brittany's use of birch, they made their knitting needles out of black walnut. You can still find these occaisionally, but the price has skyrocketed. These needles featured a victorian turned final, similar to what is seen on their crochet hooks, but there is no real difference in these needles. They have simply become collector's items due to their scarcity.
Osanna's Knit and Crochet has been selling Brittany knitting needles and crochet hooks for many years and has an excellent ebay reputation. You cant go wrong by purchasing from them!
