Brag Books come in a variety of shapes and sizes but are typically around 5x6 inches. They need to be small enough to put in a purse so the person you give it to can carry it around and Brag!
When creating a Brag Book, always start with a theme. There are many possibilities for themes-
Our First Year
Babies First Year
First Haircut
Holidays
Bridal Shower
Vacations
Once you've settled on your theme, begin selecting photographs that you want to use. One of the best things about Brag Books is most of the time, because of their size they can be made using your leftover scraps!
Start by finding colors that coordinate with your photographs or match your theme for example pastels for Babies First Year, Holiday colors for Christmas themes.
If one single color doesn't work for everything don’t worry. You don't have to use the same color for every page, but if you want to you can! You can always choose a combination of 3 or 4 colors that work together. Then, for each page, choose one of the colors to be the main color and the others to be accents.
After choosing colors, consider using embellishments. There are a variety of stickers, die cuts, brads, paper punches, ribbons and stamps available today that can be incorporated throughout your Brag Book.
Mementos other than photos make a nice addition to any page. What about placing a movie ticket from a date at the beginning of a Our First Year, or a lock of hair for the First Haircut.
Journaling will always add a special personal touch. Put photos on one page, with a journaling block on the opposite facing page telling the story of the photo. This makes it more than a just a collection of photos but a real story of the occasion.
If you are looking for that special gift for a person or group of people, something that will be treasured for generations to come, consider the unique gift of a Brag Book and sharing the gift of memories.
Please remember these brag books will be cherished for a long time so make sure you use acid and lignin free materials and if you want your photos to remain safe, all paper, glue, adhesives and embellishments touching the photos should be archival safe, or, if not, sprayed with an acid neutralizing spray.
