Below is information from Bottega Veneta care cards on how to care for your BV bags & accessories & shoes.  It's so easy to misplace these care cards so I wanted a location were the information can be referred to.  The below information is not all-inclusive and I will continue to add information as I find it.  If you have information you'd like to add, please email!

Bags & Accessories:

Do not overstuff your bags or it will ruin shape.

Do not polish hardware as it will ruin finish.

Always store purse/accessories in dust bags that are provided.  (Personal note:  Besides covering each bag with a dust bag, I also buy extra dust bags and stuff them in my bags when storing them so the suede linings stay fluffy and the leather linings don't stick to plastic stuffing.  The original paper that comes with the bags works well, too.  My bags sit on padded purse shelves that are large/long enough so bags don't touch each other.)

FABRIC - Cotton:  The fabric used for this item is made of the highest quality pure cotton.  Clean with a damp cloth using water and neutral soap.  Do not use waterproofing agents or other products in general.  The fabric has already been treated against water spots.

NAPPA LEATHER:  The leather used for this handmade product is naturally dyed and untreated.  It is therefore a delicate product.  Please avoid all contact with water, oil, direct light sources and light colored clothing.

Newer Care Cards:

VINTAGE LEATHER - (most often nappa); from vintage care card: This is genuine leather, naturally tanned without any chemicals.  It is a delicate product.  Please avoid any contact with water, grease and light colored garments.

Vintage Care Cards:

This card states:   The leather used for this handmade product is naturally dyed and untreated.  Rub lightly with a soft cloth to restore the shine.  The lighter tones of leather tend to darken when exposed to light.  This is due to the particular nature of the leather and is not a defect.  Please avoid direct contact with water, oil, direct light sources or light colored clothing.

BUTTERFLY SUEDE:  By nature, this type of skin tends to leave colored lint.  Please avoid contact with light colored clothing.

DEERSKIN: Remove dirt gently and use only specific care products.  More information from a different card: This item is made with selected deerskin.  Any visible imperfection is due to the nature of the animal skin and therefore is a guarantee of authenticity (direct quote from BV information :).  The skins are naturally dyed and untreated.  Please avoid all contact with water, oil, direct light sources and light colored clothing.  Information on a vintage card:  Guarantee of Authentic Deer Leather:  This article is made with selected skins of Deer.  The eventual visible streakings are due to the characteristics of the wild animal and so are a warranty of genuineness.

PECCARY (Wild Pig/Boar): Small imperfections, wrinkles, slight differences in color are typical of genuine peccary leather.

CAVALLO: Original color is meant to fade with use but will tend to come back to surface by polishing with a dry soft cloth.  Any visible imperfection is not a defect, but is due to the nature of the skin and therefore is a guarantee of authenticity (direct quote from BV information :)

PATENT LEATHER: Remove dirt with a damp cloth.  Polish by using a spray specific for patent leather.  Here's more information from another card:  Patent leather should not come in direct contact with other leathers since the dyes may be absorbed and leave it permanently stained.  Please also avoid prolonged exposure to the sun to prevent color fading.  It is advisable to store the article in a soft cloth bag to keep the surface from being damaged.

CROCODILE, PYTHON, LIZARD:  Clean only using specific cream polishes.

MARCO POLO:  this collection is a coated canvas that is stamped with Bottega's exclusive design and trimmed in the Bulgaro leather.  To clean Marco Polo, a silicone spray works best, although a mild soap and water may also be used.  Do not use any products that contain alcohol or acetone as they will cause discoloration.  (Care card from time of blue dustbags)

BULGARO LEATHER:  is a stamped calfskin with the signature diamond design embossed into the leather.  It is fairly durable, however Meltonian products may also be used with this collection. (Care card from the time of blue dustbags)

Vintage care card describes Marco Polo and Bulgaro leathers

Shoes:

SUEDE SHOES: Suede shoes should be brushed with a rubber or stiff - bristled brush.

SHOES /  BOOTS - General care: Always allow your shoes/boots to dry at normal room temperature, never in front of direct heat sources.  Once dry, we strongly advise you to store them on shoe trees.

FULL GRAIN LEATHER SHOES:  Remove excessive dirt with a damp cloth then polish using a premium quality soft leather cream of the correct color or neutral.  Wrong color waxes can discolor the shoe.
