I was very excited when Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan was released on DVD this past week, as I did not have the opportunity to view it in the theater. I rushed out to rent it from my local video store with full intentions on buying it because I knew that it was going to be the funniest movie that I had seen in years. All I can say is WOW! I read a recent review of this movie that stated that it was a movie that you either love or hate. I won't say that I hated it, but I definitely did NOT love it. Just like anything else in the world, Sacha Cohen's style of comedy may resonate with some and not with others. I admit, due to the movie trailers and seeing the Borat character appear on so many talk shows promoting this movie, I had very high expectations. For me the movie had some funny parts (like his wife saying that she would break off his cock if he cheated on her in America or Borat's special bonding session with a Baywatch magazine), but the parts that I found the most funny I had already seen in the movie trailers. Don't get me wrong, I can see where this movie may be side splitting to some, I just didn't enjoy it. I was so dissappointed that I didn't even view the entire movie. In my humble opinion, Borat is probably much more funny to people that are fans of Ali G and understand the history of the character more so than I did. Again, I don't hate it, just didn't love it. If you are offended easily this is not the movie for you. If you are willing to sit through it and see it for the satire that it is without expecting to die laughing it may be an enjoyable movie. I would encourage anyone that has not seen it to RENT it BEFORE you buy it to ensure that you have the acquired taste necessary to enjoy it.
