As amazing as it may seem, the burning of books is still a practice carried out today -- in all parts of the world. Books are generally burned in a ritualistic worship. As you can see from the list, poor Stephen King can't write anything without it being tossed into a disapproving fire. J.K. Rowling's books bring about such vehement disapproval and vitriolic cries, that the books are burned on the first day of their release, with the message blatantly stated that the books must be removed from this planet, and that those who read them are doomed to (where else?) THE FIRES of hell.
This list is NOT comprehensive -- there was massive book burning in World War II (Nazi bonfires), and many of the books burned there are not listed here. Throughout history, books have been burned, as well as their authors, witches, abortion clinics, churches, crosses in (others') yards, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum.
