What could be more pleasant than working in a place that's in bloom all year? Make your home office a cheerful room with garden style decor.
 
   Steps:
1.   Use a desk or workstation armoire that will anchor your garden style theme. Choose wood that's painted and decoupaged (see Related eHow "Decoupage") with flowers, painted pastel or white (ideally a worn or crackle finish), light-stained wood, or possibly a wood-metal-wicker combination.
 
2.   Select a comfortable chair. This may mean one that has a functional, high-tech look; if the appearance is too jarring for your taste, you might outfit the chair with a slipcover.
 
3.   Dress the window in a simple curtain (tab-top, Priscilla, or simple push curtain) of gingham checks, eyelet, sheers, florals, awning stripe, or nubby homespun solids, with a tieback that's a small grapevine wreath. Or leave the window unadorned to get as much of an outdoors look as you can inside.
 
4.   Store files in a regular metal cabinet; you could decoupage it, or hide the cabinet under a table that's skirted to match the curtains.
 
5.   Set a shelf for growing potted plants in front of the window, or mount a window box inside the room. If you want blooms, impatiens, begonias and African violets usually grow well indoors.
 
6.   Choose lighting for function first, then style. A simple desk lamp in a vintage style (perhaps a brass and green glass banker's lamp) should provide ample lighting and suit the motif.
 
7.   Hang a few well-chosen pictures that echo the garden theme. Vintage textbook-style botanical drawings give a serious look to your office while still complementing the look. Pressed plants such as ferns and pansy blossoms also work well.
 
8.   Accessorize in ways that are functional, too. An old watering can could hold mail, a basket could hold office supplies, and a slim vase could be a great catchall for pencils and pens. Use a flowerpot as a wastebasket and a birdhouse as a bookend.
 
 Tips:
 If you need a conference table or worktable, use one designed for outdoor use. Many of these are stylish glass-topped, cast-metal tables in a wide variety of designs.
 
 Consider keeping accessories to a minimum for the garden style home office.
