I listed a bunch of used ADT / Ademco alarm equipment on Ebay. Just as the auction was closing I received an alert from EBAY stating that ADT has filed a VeRo (Verified Rights Ownership) claim. The equipment was purchased from ADT so it is not bogus or counterfit. It is used OEM equipment.
VeRo claims are for bogus or counterfit merchandise. It is a way for a manufacturer of software, music, handbags, etc. to stop someone from selling fake stuff on Ebay.
Unfortunately, ADT is using these claims on all the used and new equipment that comes up for sale on Ebay. It effectively blocks there equipment from being sold so they can sell more new equipment and that homeowner has to call them to make a service call and sell them new stuff. ADT is pretty smart for doing this.
Problem is if other manufacturers follow suit then there is a big problem for EBAY. At the moment Ebay does not give the seller any notice to respond to the complaint. They just take down the auction and give you a form letter with no where to dispute the claim.
I hope someone at EBAY picks up there head and does something about ADT's behavior because this could be a cancer that quickly spreads and ruins their site forever. I wonder if Craig's list has this problem?
