Bodhisattva literally means 'enlightened(bodhi) being/existence(sattva). Acurately translation would be "Wisdom Beings". A Bodhisattva is someone who is motivated by the wish wish to benefit other beings and lead them to enlightenment. Someone who aspires to become a Buddha to free sentient beings from the cycle of deth, rebirth and suffering. There are two kinds of Bodhisattva: 1. Adi-Karma Bodhisattva who is a beginner and 2. A Bodhisattva who has attained the first level of Bodhisattva Grounds or Field and will gradually progress to the Tenth level Bodhisattva Ground. There are ten Bodhisattva Grounds/Bhumi and can be categorized into three paths: Bhumi-1 is the Path of Insight; Bhumi 2 to7 is the Path of Meditation and Bhumi 8 to 10 is the Path of No More Learning. THe ten Bodhisattva grounds are: 1 .Great Joy 2. Stainless 3. Radiant 4. Luminous 5. Very difficult to train 6. Obviously Transcendent 7. Gone afar 8. Immovable 9. Good Discriminating Wisdom 10. Cloud of dharma.
