What are BioBags made of?
A Corn-starch based biodegradable material called Matter-Bi. These products are similar to plastic in touch and function, but do not last eons like petroleum-based platics.A+ Environmental Report Card
- 100% Non-GMO corn
- Fully certified 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable
- Soy based inks and dyes are used and packaging is 100% recylcable.
- BioBag sheeting is acceptable for use in organic agriculture.
But will they work? Are BioBags durable?
Yes, they're durable like a plastic bag! You won't soil your hand or have unexpected leaks. BioBag products are shelf stable below 120 degrees and are meant to decompose after 1-2 months in "compost-like" conditions.
Why not "recycle" old shopping bags?
Plastic bags trap your waste, never giving it a chance to naturally decompose. Instead of natural decomposition plastic makes your waste take MUCH longer to decompose. Eventually plastic bags do fragment and then those fragments last 100's of years.Alternatively, Biobags breakdown into completely natural components in a matter of months in compost conditions. This can translate to years in a landfill, but at least in our lifetime. A far superior choice than plastic.
Why is "BioBag" the best biodegradable option?
Compared to other "bioplastics" and "biodegradable" material, Matter-Bi (the material biobags are made of) performs extremely well as far as compostablility and biodegradability. Other manufacturers blend additives to polyethylene to produce "degradable" bags.Unfortunately, this process fragments the bags into pieces of plastic debris. These pieces cause serious harm when mistaken by animals and birds for food.
BioBag products use no polyethylene in the production process
Fully certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute to be 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable.
