Bicycles are not allowed on any trails except for the paved two-mile hiker/biker trail from Apgar to West Glacier. Biking in Glacier is ideally adapted to the casual biker. Bicycle rentals are not available in the park, but that service is offered in the neighboring community of Kalispell.
SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER
- This is snow country. It's best to plan your trip in the summer months. It's a safe assumption that the roads will have ice or snow from mid October through April.
- If cool and cloudy is your comfort zone, try May and June.
- Want it a bit warmer? Then July and August should be your choice.
-
Remember, no matter what the month, the nights are quite cool to cold. There are numerous accommodations throughout the park ... make your reservations early.
REGULATIONS
- Obey all rules that apply to motorists.
- Bicycles are not allowed on park trails or off-road backcountry areas. Service roads and utility corridors are also closed to bikes.
- Bicycles must exhibit a white light on the front and a red light or reflector on the rear during periods of low visibility.
- No riding abreast.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO IN THE PARK FOR FUN
Obviously, camping is the first activity that comes to mind. But you can also hike, boat, fish, backcountry camp, go on ranger-let nature hike and talks (highly recommended), horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and sightseeing. Kids aged 6 to 12 can become a Junior Ranger by completing various family activities. Pick up a copy of the Junior Ranger Newspaper at any park visitor center. Additionally, there is an education cabin located near the Apgar Visitor Center which allows children and families to explore educational and fun hands-on activities during regularly-scheduled hours throughout the summer.
REPAIR SERVICE
Parts and repair are available in Kalispell, 25 miles west of park headquarters in West Glacier. Of course, bring along some common repair parts and a patch kit for quick repairs on the go.
