eBay no longer allows a seller to charge a low price for an auction and ridiculous high shipping.
For example:
A fishfinder is sold for .99 cents and the shipping is $340!
They now watch auctions closely to make sure this is not happening. In every auction there is now a "Report This Item" link in the bottom of each auction to report fraudulent activity, high fees etc...
I still see a little of this though. Just today I was pricing a Garmin Auto GPS Product to see what other sellers were charging. I found a person selling for $15 less than I am but still charging $19.99 for shipping. The shipping method they offer was standard delivery. Not expedited as I do for the same price. My shipping is overnight express 1-2 business days for $19.95! That is exactly what it costs me to ship to the lower US 48 states. So what they were doing is making up their money in shipping! Ground shipping typically for this item was only $11. Also they do not insure their items which would add another $6 to the item. So you get what you pay for! If the item gets lost in transit, you lose! Make sure your shipper is insuring your items or that they offer optional insurance for you to buy if you want it insured.
If you see an item like this, report it. eBay is a wonderful place to do business, and it is a safe place if you check out whom you are buying from!
Read their recent feedback
Look at the other items they are selling
Look at how long they have been in business
Read their return policy and terms of the sale
Look to see that they have their contact info in the auction
email them before you buy to see how long it takes them to respond and how they respond.
The feedback profile on eBay is a wonderful guide and score card to show you who you are doing business with!
I hope this info helps you buy and sell safely & successfully on eBay!
