I purchased an obvious fake from a seller (look at these for reference) for $30 shipped. The low price should have been my first clue. Thirty bucks for a $90 headset is too good to be to be true and we all know what they say about "too good to be true". The fake I purchased was a real good one too. At first glance and without a real WEP-200 to compare it to, it is easy to be fooled. I recieved mine with no manual and no packaging. The seller told me this was due to it being an "OEM" model. The headset worked, but the performance was horrible. I would hear echo and static with the phone 2-4 feet away. I decided to just accept the loss and order the headset from Samsung directly. Upon recieving the headset, I immediately noticed the differences which included:
- The color of "SAMSUNG" lettering on the ebay purchased headset was not well saturated and it seemed very rough around the edges.
- The model label on the inside of the fake was the same and was not well centered.
- The volume buttons on the fake were loose and wiggle a considerable amount within the housing. Not so on the Samsung
- The small rubber piece on the fake was flimsy and loose where as the Samsung headset's was firm and well made.
- The "Bluetooth" symbol at the end of the fake headset had the same color saturation and "fuzzy printing" issues as listed above.
- The Samsung stayed clear and echo free with my SLVR L7 all the way to the other side of the room. The fake could not do that from 3 feet away.
- The beeps to indicate incoming calls and volume changes were completely different.
- My Samsung came in a box with a hologram sticker reading "Original Samsung" on the front. It also had a manual, quick start guide and extra rubber pieces for right and left ear.
I guess the best advice I can give is just spend a little extra and buy from the Samsung website.
