Patina Samples are being sold on ebay. These were either taken from the frogman foundry without permission or given as gifts from Frogman in faith they wouldn't be sold.
What are they? Samples of colors and test colors that are not signed by the artist and were never intended to be sold to the public.
How can I be sure? If there is no number assigned and has no signature. Buy your frogs and make sure they are marked "Tim" or "Tim Cotterill" and have an assigned number and should be accompanied by the original COA
Are they worth less? Without a doubt! Tim did NOT sign them or have anything to do with them.
Can they be repaired by the foundry? No.. Frogman has taken a firm stand on this. Tim should not sign them at the show and the foundry will not repair them as they were never signed or sold from a gallery.
Most of the frogs that are sold are authentic frogs, just be sure they are signed if you care about the value. If you only want a frog in the likeness and the value is to good to pass up, it is a cheaper alternative. This is just a guide to help those who wonder why they aren't signed. They were never sold from authorized galleries and never intened to be resold.
My advise, don't buy them! Buy signed and numbered frogs and help keep and maintain the integrity of the art.
