I would say that I am "Hobbyist" more than a serious collector of watches. I have several Ebels, Tissots, Invictas and a Baume. I also have several Louis Bolle, S.U.G. and Rousseaus. During the past few months, I have made several trips into New York City to visit family and friends over the holidays. Several places I always like to visit are the Times Square Area and Canal Street. Yes, the heart of the tourist traps! I always get great prices on sunglasses. If I loose or sit on them I don't feel bad, becuase I bought several pair. One thing I have never seemed interested in was the watch replicas or knock offs! Over the New Years Holiday, I found myself on Canal Street amazed at all the junk and souvenirs the tourist were buying. There were the usual guys who have been selling fake Rolex's for at least 20 years. What caught my attention was the vendors who were selling luxury and non-luxury knock offs. From Piguets to Hublots, to Corums, to Tissots, to Baumes, to Invictas to Concords. I could not believe my eyes. The quality was high! The weight was right on also. The mechanical complications made me stop to think several times about buying that $25,000 Piaget I have been watching for several years. The Tissot I was wearing was an exact match to one of the knock offs. The guy insisted I put one on my wrist until one of the workers told him I should him my watch before picking it up. I'm sure most people know that they are getting replicas when they pay $30-$55.00 on the street. But when these same items find there way online, without being inspected or the merchant verified, we could have a real problem. Did I buy one? No, If anyone knew I bought a knock off, they surely would think all my watches that I saved my hard earned money for were knock offs.
