I've been collecting Baseball/sports Cards for well over 28 years now.  I've also been on both sides of the counter as a dealer and a collector.  Do any of you remember these "error and oddity" baseball cards?  1989 Fleer Bill Ripken #616 "F**k Face" card that people were paying over $200.00 for??  1989 Upper Deck Dale Murphy #357 "reverse negative".  1990 Score #697 Bo Jackson Nike Football/Baseball Card that was worth up to $25.00?  I could keep going on and on.  Well kiddies, the folks at the Topps Company caused quite a stir last year with their Alex Gordon Cards. (Topps #297 and Heritage #255)  This year, it looks like they did it again with their Derek Jeter #40 baseball card that shows George Bush in the stands and Mickey Mantle in the dugout.  As far as I know, the red back parallel cards were only in the "hobby edition" packs.  (Let me know if I'm wrong.)  Each regular 10 card pack had TWO red back parallel cards.  I bought two boxes and was lucky enough to make one complete 330 card set.  I only pulled ONE Derek Jeter regular white back card and ONE Derek Jeter red back parallel card out of two boxes.  I also pulled a 1952 Mantle Reprint Relic #'d 49/52 which had stated odds of 1 in 158,700 packs but who cares about that!!  I've noticed that eBay is flooded with the Derek Jeter red back parallel cards.  Upon closer inspection, I've noticed that many of these are FAKE!!!!!!!  **gasp!!**  With a red felt-tip pen or marker and about 45 seconds to a minute of their time, they just doubled the value of the card!!  If you look at the Derek Jeter regular white back card, you'll notice four small red boxes in the upper left corner above his photo.  On a GENUINE red back parallel card, the red letters in the name, the card number, and the Topps logo are all in the same red color as the four small red boxes.  All of the letters/card number/Topps logo are SOLID RED with NO streaks or spots!!  On a FAKE red back parallel card, it seems as if the person colors in the white letters, card number and the Topps logo with a red felt-tip pen or marker which makes these letters look reddish but they're not the same original shade/color as the four red squares in the upper left corner.  Also if you study the letters, you'll notice that the letters are not a SOLID RED.  (You can see some variation in the color!!)  DO NOT BUY ANY DEREK JETER RED BACK CARD IF THEY DON'T SHOW YOU THE BACK OF THE CARD!!!  I've noticed a lot of sellers listing a red back card but they don't show you the back of the card.  I know that this is too late for those of you who already got ripped-off but I hope that this will save future buyers from suffering the same fate!!  Be sure to read my other guides that I've written to help you from getting ripped off.
