If you receive an email stating that a potential buyer retracted a bid, do yourself a favor and check into it. I recently had a buyer retract a bid with the reason of "entered wrong amount". I was suspicious as the amount was only $1 above the high bid, so I looked at identical items of other sellers. This buyer had bid on multiple similar items at the same time. In my case, the bid was retracted and I saw a bid by this same buyer, 1 minute after the retraction, on an item that was posted later and was currently selling for less. All of this happened with less than 5 hours to go on my item.
I did send an email to EBay to let them know and they informed me that they were investigating the buyer. I encourage you to check into any retracted bids to ensure that they are legitimate. Buyers or sellers who abuse an otherwise great system should be stopped as soon as possible. It is important that EBay continues to be a safe and secure place to buy and sell items.
