There has been recent attempts at fraudulent access into many eBay accounts, forcing people to spend 2 days trying to change their own passwords in order to gain access to their own accounts, after their password was changed either by eBay, or the fraudster.
The most obvious fraudelent route into your eBay account is via free snipeware, because the snipe bid will only work if you have authorised the company to gain access to your account byt GIVING THEM YOUR PASSWORD, and updating it if you change it. Let's face it, we know nothing about these free companies, or who they sell their information to, do we?
Don't use snipeware, unless you want to just hand over your account to anyone in the world. Far better to stay up until 3.00 am, and bid manually on something you really want.
UPDATE: It seems that using free snipeware (like Justsnipe) triggers an alarm with eBay when your password is used from a different address than your own, and this is not entirely a bad thing, as it shows that eBay's technology is on it's toes. Maybe eBay should offer their own downloadable snipeware which would by-pass this inconvenience, or you could register a different password for use by an authorised outsider?
