A Genuine Jabra JX-10

I've  bought 4 Jabra JX-10 headsets on eBay now. And I've even bought one for full Retail from BestBu*.  I've found many differences that you might encounter and I've even found differences that confounded Jabra themselves.  Here's what I've found.

Things that quickly say not a genuine Jabra:

1. Black headset - Be VERY Careful.  THE VAST Majority of those sold on eBay were being sold looong before the genuine BLACK Jabra JX-10 became available JUST RECENTLY.  I do not own a Black JX-10 yet, but the differences are very noticable just by looking at the photos.  I have tried to differentiate between the two in my guide on the Black JX-10 with photos.  Take a look to see the difference:

2. A clear cover over LED light instead of smokey/whitish cover, enabling you to SEE the light bulb beneath the cover.  Very indicative of a counterfeit.

Counterfeit         VS   Genuine

3. No FCC ID #, IC#, CE symbol or 3 digit manufacturer # under rubber ring on earpiece.

  • THE #'s that are on mine from BestBu* are:
    •      FCC ID: BCE-JX10
    •                                                   IC: 2386C-JX10
    •      A 3 digit manuf. #- for example mine is: 27E
    •      A "CE" symbol facing left to right.  I've seen them facing right to left on a fake.

Now that I've listed the "dead give-aways" - I've found a few myself also that made me very suspicious.  I bought one headset from a eBay seller that said that he actually got his headsets from an "authorized Jabra dealer", but I compared the headset with the headset that I bought from BestBu* for $180.  There were sooo many subtle differences, but the headset looked great still - and I would have never known if I did not have something to compare it to.  Even Jabra did not know what to say - they said that things sounded fishy, but if it was not genuine, the maker sure did a good job.  I agreed, but I'm certain that the knock-off look alike (we'll call it KO) is NOT worth the $180 that I spend at BestBu* (we'll just call it BB). (Although $180 is a bit steep also - but a red flag goes up when you spend much less for this "$180" headset).

Unfortunately I took no pics before I sent it back, but I'll describe the KO next:

**The Genuine Jabra Knockoff**

1. There actually was an FCC#,  ID#, CE symbol and 3 digit manuf. # on the KO!  The difference was that the numbers looks 'sloppier' than that from BB. The ones on the BB headset were straight and crisp. And one of the IC #'s - an 8 - looked like it was missing one corner - just enough to not be a criminal copy.

2. The power on and off sound was different.  The BB headset has a progressive tone going from low to high and the KO's tones were out of order.

3. Different Part # and Serial # on BOX: The white sticker on the box has the Part # and the Serial #.  Mine has Part #: 100-99100000-02 and Serial #: 0742173482.  I checked Jabra.com and the part # listed on their website is also 100-99100000-02.  The KO box had totally different numbers. Here's the genuine BB box:

4. The KO headset had many slight differences in the casing itself.  The LED cover was not clear, but it wasn't smokey white either.  The metal grid over the speaker stuck out past the rubber ring.  The white + and - volume buttons looked like they were almost hand-painted on the rubber. And many other subtle differences that you would only notice with direct comparison.  The KO also came with a DRAW STRING carrying bag rather than the quick open pouch.

5. Another eBay user asked about Sound quality of the KO-- actually the KO had loud, clear sound quality during conversation. I didn't have any true complaints with the use of the KO other than it became 'unpaired' with my phone a couple times and I had to turn it off and back on again for it to become 're-paired' with the phone.

Well, with all this said, I just want buyers to be aware that they may not be getting the $180 headset that they were expecting for only ~$70.    Two more tips:

** I actually found that it is easier to get a used headset that is more likely genuine than a brand new headset from who knows where.

** I would recommend asking the seller where they purchased the headset - the seller of one that I purchased told me that he had also purchased his at BestBu*, so I wasn't worried at all before purchasing.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me through eBay.

Good luck and God Bless!
