I enjoy reading Harlequin novels from authors that follow a theme from book to book. Raised in Devonshire, England, Betty Neels trained as a nurse and midwife.  She was an army nurse during the war. She took up writing after her retirement from nursing. Most of her books that I have read are about a Dutchman in a medical field and a young women as a nurse or connected in some way to hospitals or other caregiving vocations.

 The books are easy to read and leave a pleasant feeling when finished. In her thirty years as an author Betty Neels completed 134 books and was still writing into her ninetieth year. She passed away in June 2001, but there were still stories to be published, and books to be reissued.

Betty Neels wrote her first novel in school exercise books, finding the time to do so between household chores. Teased by her husband and daughter about her hobby, it grew into "mother’s profession,"  Married to a Dutchman, she spent her first twelve years of marriage living in Holland and working as a nurse. This background gives much insight of the country, landmarks and private homes as she weaves her stories.
