This is going to be a hard sell but ,I am going to give it a shot ! I am a Older firearm user .I said User ,not a collector ! Came from Farm country and the city moved in on me ."TO BAD CITYS SUCK"the country was better ,City Government Sucks ,Most need replaced with anything ! If you don't want to look at that, vary quickly I will tell you .I have had guns of all types since My older Brother got a Red Rider BB gun for Xmas (kinda like "A Christmas Story "Its almost the same story for me but with a bit of a twist LONG STORY ) .Big Brother would not let me even hold his BB gun . So next year I got the newer Redrider, but with a plastic stock .Brother was a wannabe Gun collector , and all his buddys also collected ,and after a time we would get into "Who was the better shot" . I think the most accurate shooting I have done at 100 yds was with a Savage Anschutz mod 64, 22 long only single shot OU target rifle with a floating barrel it cost $150 then . also a great gun to train rapid fire with, was a Remington mod 66 (for $49 big bucks  same date as the OU), they don't build them like that anymore . Another great gun was a Crosman Pump 177 air "rifle" back when the stocks were made out of cheaper grade walnut and you could get replacement parts. I rebuilt the one I had at lest 2 times then Crosman stopped selling replacement parts .Not sure why . When I got a little more cash I moved on to a RWS single shot brake barrel 177 Air Rifle with a quality air gun scope I think it was a Beeman 3.5x10x. The spring recoil was so hard the scope rail pin broke.I made a better one out of drill rod ,After 5000 shots it broke to . after another 10000 shots ,I traded it in for something better .

My brother got me started on Black powder and wild west guns .He had horses and always  thinked , him self to be " Clint Eastwood from a few Dollars more"or less . I played fast draw some but never was as good as Brother Clint , I fired 600 rounds (38 peace maker) a week to stay with him . He could shoot moving targets with a 44-40 that could impress a lot of trap shooters and they use shotguns .Finally  I sold out fast draw and went to Black powder Civil War guns .

 My Cousin got me started shooting Army collectors stuff .To Cousin military guns were like fine wine (he liked German fine wines to ) And another friend was also into Military he liked big guns . Civil war cannons and all the Class 3 stuff . I am a pro mechanic , mechanist , welder and my real hobby was motorcycles and sports cars and aircraft . So who do you think the shooting guys get when their irons broke .Me ! I think I have fixed them all everything you can think of . I once repaired a 1200 lb Two wheeled 25 mm French anti tank gun .Welding &,hydraulic repairs ,made a new firing pin and.lots of other stuff .Did it for free just to see it work .

 Well now I am not into sport hunting , but my brother would drink his Xmas bonus up then drag me out with him so he could have a turkey or a dam dear or something for the holidays . I have no problem dropping a bird of some kind just so I can go home and get out of the snow . Ok this is a hint , Bolt action hunting rifle ( a top of the line at that )got damp out in cold weather ,conditions got even colder , went back to Pickup truck to give it up .tried to un load gun , locked up solid .It was a rifle pop sickel . Brothers 45-70 cowboy gun also locked up . If we had AK-47 this would not have happened . Guns brake sometimes when you might need them the most . One gun stands out as rugged as all get out , and its kind of like a AK in a way but fires on a different principle .That rifle is a German G3 non belt feed, also sold as a H&K 91 in 308 and a93 in 223 . Our Army tested the belt feed H&Ks in 308 firing over 5000 rds with out a single jam or broken off case and went on to fire 10000 rds with only 3 jams total ,and the gun was not cleaned untill the test had ended . No other military gun we ever tested or sent into action ever beat the G3 for mechanical reliability and function . Its sister rifle the Spanish Cetme is known to work even with a broken firing pin ,Although it goes full auto runaway then .But it still works . A G3 works in the coldest weather requires no or little oil ,and can shoot with no problems poor quality reloads. By the way a MP5 is a Design related  sub machine gun in 9mm based on the G3 action  and that is what the US Navy Seals use in 9mm and 223 .I wonder why ! . The G3 also knowen as .H&K 91&93 s have a few draw backs ,To get accuracy that will match a M1A1 you must have lots of big money. BIG BIG BUCKS to get the sniper options PSG-1! . I think the H&K system would make a fine all weather hunting gun and if you got one in 223 it could fire 22s with a add on kit for 22 longs .the gun has no gas bleed tube to load up with lead and dirt like all the other gas blow back auto rifles,Ak,s AR,s,M1,s,Fn Fal,FNc,s and on. So with the HKs things will clean up nice . More over the 223 is a bit more accurate then the 308 unless you buy the sniper H&K 308 with your Big bucks .Personaly Feel means a lot though and the stock is a bit strange and the folder is even stranger . I would take a HK 91 over almost anything . But the stocks and pull are not for every one.

 Now the only rifle that will compete with the H&K with out a scope is the AK -47 copy called a Valmet from Finland .Its has a few minor changes that make it accurate ,much better than most AK,s and even more reliable . Scopes do not work well with AKs so the Gun that will get the job done with a scope and is a fine rifle rugged and reliable ,and as accurate as any top of the line hunting rifle . Is the Springfield M1 A1 national match but you can only find them in 308 or243 win  , You might think the Ruger mini 14 is a 223 replacement for the M14 or M1A1,It is not the same gun at all .Mini 14 will not hold a strong group and the rear sight is really bad (blocks the view to much and front sight gets lost "I had one in stainless steel"hated it" ,I would never buy another thing from Ruger had 3 of their guns all had issues).The AR15 is much better but still can have jam problems. Anyhow small slugs like the 223 are only good for 500 yards on a good day and 308 can hold a pattern at 1100 yards on a bad day ( side winds!). Making the H&K in 308 much better. So in the long run the black so called assault guns that Big Businesses so called our government wants to take away from you really make vary nice multi use Firearms .

If you had to have only one rifle a H&K or M1A1 or A Valmet could do almost all ,untill you run out of nitro powder ,then you will need a flint lock ,any one could make black powder at home .So it is real hard to pin down a One best rifle . So I will do a list of most reliable all weather guns from first chose to last . H&K 91 & 93 (same as HK43&33 and SAR-3 from Springfield ) top choice..

 No 2  Valmet,s  m 64, m76 ,& m78 some .223 and others 7.62 x39 sniper in 308 as well as copy models in .223 ( the Galil is a close copy ) ,Next Mitchell arms M90 ( A RPK heavy barrel ak type gun from Yugoslavia , 7.62 x .39 and 7.62x54 Rimed as well as 308 nato . Top of the ling for block ak s .

Other AK s are vary cheap and a SKS will do close to the same job and are real real cheap to buy ,

Next choice I can't help it! The M1A1 "national match" from Springfield is a top class gun ,other makes could be made in China and they are Real junk and parts can not be used to inter change from USA made guns for replacements,US Made M1A1 s are first class for a long gun. The FN Fal is very good an can take a few different solid scope mount ,its. just some what over sized and over weight Any make or copy of a FN FAL and the lighter but high buck FNC in 223 (no scope for FNC)are good guns .

Dead last choice for dependability with this class of gun, would be any M 16 AR15 and look a likes from Asia  ( I would still have one but you must take care with loading and keeping durt and water out and thay will not take much of a beating also ,Most AR 15 s as well as AR10 in 308 are Very accurate and that keeps it on the buy list. A good replacement for the AR15 is the new AR180 its built stronger and lots os steel parts .Look out prices are a  high for this cheap made gun . 

Next List ."If you just want Accurate" ,and can do with out 100% total reliability . Top choice the M1A1 National Match or Super Match factory tuned by Springfield Armory With a ART or Tri Lux factory installed scope.Or with the best scope on the market "Shepherd" you install it . M1A1 is in 308 or 243 win only.  I must give One Bolt action the number 2 spot  a Steyr-Mannlicher SSG and only the SSGs in 308! Best all weather bolt action (dry lube the bolt in the cold or coat with anti freeze its Stainless no rust ) pass on the other Steyr,s with wood stocks and blued steel they will rust  . The Steyr match UIT is maybe the most accurate .308 on earth and well built . Vary heavy weight wise the 700 Remingtons are good guns but have ammo feeding problems from the left side of the mag ,nick named  The "Remington monument" . A strange optional gun is a Steyr AUG (Bullpup design) . It is the EZst to shoot and hit what you are shooting at gun I have ever fired and has a built in 4x scope thats real good ,only in .223 nato,will shoot US ( US .223- 55 gr slug .223 Nato- 65 gr slug ,stronger load for all steel gun action )Why am I in love with .223 and .308.( not really flat in love with military ammo but ! "ONE "lots of military surplus ammo out their and prices will let you get lots of shooting in ,I don't want to spend $80 for 40 shots then go home for the clean up after a few shots .Ammo for the 458 winchester mag is $40 for 20 rds,as well as .338 mag "now even more".And that Cowboy 45-70 ,80 90 100 stuff ,are all $40 or more a box. On the other hand  some 223,s will convert to 22 long rifle ,I have shot the AR15 with a 22 long rifle converter  kit made by IMI and at 100 yds it was right on target with the scope. And worked with out a problem .Also .338 and .458 mags will turn your shoulder black and blue with just a few shots . Auto loaders with muzzle brakes in .223 kick like a .22 long rifle bolt action , And .308 with a brake not to bad at all . With out a muzzle brake most people will get tired after 200 rds are fired ,with a brake most people can go a lot more ."another 100 at least". Think about that before you buy .sustained fire for longer times is good .

 Last thing! ,Big Business,and their bought and paid for Government (That was supposed to be ours) & The Controlling Yellow News Media want to remove you from your fire arms ASAP .And the first to go will be the ones I listed (other than the Steyr SSG maybe ).and in some places its a done deal right now .Assault guns make people drug dealers you know,or people rob banks with big buck guns they signed for just because they they have a black gun with a  pistol grip RIGHT !  A " Assault gun" is a Sub caliber Rifle round firing flexible light weight Clip fed, Machine gun with a Semi Auto selector (can fire Full auto or Semi auto ),made for the military .NOT a Black gun with a pistol grip in Semi auto .The only thing the yellow media and Big business,s dishonest ,paid for government do is lie about it to uninformed people ! So they will turn in their guns, so we can all be safe .Yea Right!

This is my Dream List .if I was to start collecting guns ! H&K PSG-1 sniper $ 8500 and up Big bucks with H&K scope system or The cheaper  H&K 91 a2 $1000 and up . needs a good scope with a compact size ,short eye releaf and wide field of view.Or night vision. 2x or 3x to 4 x fine. Short eye releaf is a big problem with H&K91 scope mounts .

Steyr AUG $ high bucks .223 only  Best military carbine on Earth .Built in scope fast gun in tight places ,accurate!

Galil Sniper 308 its the only ak that has a good scope system "Nimrod scope and mount" then a  Valmet M64 Best AK type all steel folder.most in made in 223.

Springfield Armory M1A1 super match and Shepherd scope with Oiled Walnut stock .What else could I say, number 1 first class all the way .

Springfield M1 Garand sniper M21 (most fun 3006 ) First class WW2 gun and First class Repo WW2  (Springfield only one to buy)for get Asia mods .

FN FAL ,L1 A1 British and Canada used army with bolt cuts  best in the dirt and sand also from India L1A1 same gun but good shooter ,cheap, beater then paying $2700 for one from Europe and realy not bad at all ,and Springfields SAR-48 and IMI heavy barrel ,Accurate & built like a tank ! Best built like a tank gun !

Best bolt action sniper type Steyr SSG 308 nato with a Shepherd Military scope 10shot clip and a few extra clips super accurate.

Best interchangeable parts gun .Colt AR 15 A2 Delta H-bar ,With Signature Colt scope ,accurate ,If you can't live with out a AR15 this is it .You can find lots of different add on parts for this thing .

Outstanding 22 ,Anschutz match mod 54 and mod 1403 d ,top of the line 1827 Biathlon Best 3 Bolt action 22 s money can buy,shoots in the cold the same as on a hot day .

AR7 22 Armalite or charter arms Best gun to have in a boat .It will float ,accurate for a cheap 22 . repairs done with a file or pocket knife .

The best TO MUCH Plastic gun Sig 550 in .223 more plastic than a Glock and it works well .Sorry Glock guys ! I hate all the plastic used on guns now ,but if you love plastic this is the one for you. Now a Army standard Sig 550 .By the way Glocks and Sig plastic guns are red lined after a few years of service and melted down as scrap . All steel guns will last a life time .Plastic goes to hell with time !

Best cheap shotgun Stainless steel Mariner Mossberg pump #1choise or Law enforcement model. #2 choise

Best Cowboy action - Shiloh Sharps Montana Roughrider in 30 40 krag shoots nice and flat better than any 45-70 other wise get the same gun in 45-70 Ez to get ammo for that way .

Best single shot 45-70 carbine "Springfield trap door officers mod"  much faster than a Sharps with better sights than the standard model . You might look for a old H&R repo they shoot good ,but use light loads only .

Most fun BP gun Parker Hale 1858 two band musket .577 Enfield (made in England and no longer made in England and no longer Quality made at all ,as well ) 5 grove tapered bore ,3f Black powder and large musket caps,very Accurate and older ones have nice walnut stocks make your own slugs ,Repos are not so nice and some only has 3 grove barrels with no taper bore give them a pass (high price junk copy) Make sure you are buying a 5 grove barreled gun the rest are cheap junk ! .

Best air gun ,Pump up type Sheridan rifle 5mm it last and last.The CO2s all leak, a week after you buy it and spring guns fall apart in  time because the spring bounce shakes them ti bits . I don't care how much they cost .And Lifetime Guarantee is the life time of the gun not your lifetime .If they stop making that model the Lifetime is over .Most outfits don't stand behind anything for more than 1 year.. Had a RWS mod 10 it fell apart and they stopped selling them,parts to  (good way to get out of the life time Guarantee ).Also had a mod 35 RWS it also fell apart .

And best display gun (wall hanger)Winchester Mod 70 custom Safari the looks will kill and get it  with a killer round .338 Win Mag can be fun to fire a few times ,better load your own "use Speer Steel core slugs to drill holes and it will sub for a black & decker any day .The 458 win mag will black and blue your arm . 3 shot your flinching .BeenTheirDoneThatSeenIt,ouch!

Best stand up shoulder fired cannon Van Horn .500 express(actually .510) and .600  express ,Don't sandbag fire this one you will brake the stock or your arm . Safari Carbine with a muzzle brake recoil system is manageable but the price tag is not ,If you can find one for sale that is .Makes all the old time .500 nitros  look like unreliable junk .Van Horn is first class all the way .Fantastic Rifle at a high price .

Most fun over .50 cal . 3 inch Civil war Bronze James rifle accurate, and if you don't like to polish the barrel a Iron Parrot will do the same job Try Paulson brothers  ,also looks nice in front yard and is not Class 3 stuff .

Last on wish list a German 88 mm Duel Anti tank & Anti aircraft gun ( hard to move to shooting range also need 8 ton Skoda halftrack and lots of fuel .And WW2 BMW M750 with side car with wide load sign ) fun to dream on ! Like list vote yes or no  The Guide has a 50/50 rating or close Tell me what rifle you think is best if you could only have one gun !
