Walking into Sephora for me is like a kid in a candy store. I have to drive over an hour to get to one, but it's well worth the trip. I often find myself sniffing out deals at the local buy-out stores, just in case one of my favorite products happens to make it to the closeout corner. Despite my "addiction" to cosmetics I choose to keep my looks down-to-earth and natural looking. In my years using and selling cosmetics, I have definately found a few items I cannot live without to achieve this look.
Most Important is Skin Cleansing. My dermatologist told me never to use soap or soap cleanser to clean my face as they usually caused skin irritation. My top five skin cleansers:
- DHC Deep Cleansing Oil This product is not a soap, yet it leaves your skin clean and soft. You would think since it was an oil based product it would make your skin oily, but rub it between your fingers and it turns into a "foam" for lack of a better word.
- Clinique CX Soothing Cleanser Again, this product is more of a lotion than a soap and leaves your skin clean and soft.
- Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser: This soft foaming cleanser gently washes skin and leaves it soft, not dry.
- CeraVe Hydrating CleanserAgain, more of a lotion than a cleanser. This product can be found in drug stores such as Walgreens, and is highly recommended by my dermatologist. Especially for people like me who have rosacea.
- Philosophy Purity Made Simple This like all products on my list is more of a lotion than a soap cleanser. Many of my buyers say this is by far their favorite cleanser.
Facial Moisturizers. I have very oily skin, so I was rarely using any facial moisturizers....as they would have a tendency to make me break out. However medicine the dermatologist gave me for my rosacea dries out my skin, plus he said to keep your face looking young you should always use a moisturizer, especially one with SPF. Here is my top 4 (but don't tell my dermatologist that not all have SPF).
- F21C Fresh FreshFace Primer:: Two Products in One! This is a lightweight lotion that primes your face for make-up application. Like most Fresh products it is made from products found in nature such as cucumber rose water, etc.
- Osmotics Blue Copper 5 Firming Elasticity Repair: I LOVE this, but in reality is not a product most people can afford. Especially on a teaching budget such as mine! Soaks into skin and does not leave it greasy, also helps minimize redness!!!
- Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15: Here is that moisturizer with the SPF in it. It is also very lightweight and does not make skin feel greasy!
- CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion: Highly recommended by my dermatologist. Spreads easily and is non-greasy.
Foundation. I am not a liquid foundation fan, but I have a few that I use from time to time. Most liquid foundations are heavy in oils that can irritate sensitive skin.
- Bare Escentuals Foundation with SPF 15: See even if I don't wear the moisturizing lotion with SPF, my foundation has it! Love how this goes on, is lightweight, and yet gently covers skin imperfections. By far one of my favorite products!!
- Dior Diorskin Liquid MakeupSPF 12: One of the few liquid foundations I love. Matte finish, goes on smoothly, and highlights skin.
- Smashbox Foundation Primer Photo Finish in Bronzing: This is a makeup base, but with its bronzing element can be worn without foundation for a healthy, natural looking glow that spreads on easily!!!
Eye Shadows: I Love Eye shadows. I love how different colors can make your eyes change color.
- Smashbox Smashing Sequence By far my FAVORITE mix of eye shadows that are suitable for anyone! Soft and natural or apply wet and be a little more bold. It was only sold as part of a kit, so the only place to buy it is Ebay!
- Bare Escentuals bareMinerials Eye Shadow in Vanilla Sugar can be applied wet or dry depending on how bold you want to go. This is a soft natural looking color.
- Lancome Colour Dose EyeColor in Bermuda Sunrise: Is a liquid and comes in a tube, and goes on smoothly with a soft, shimmery natural looking color. Add some brown in the crease of the eye and you are done.
- Bare Escentuals Liner Shadows: Ok, so this one is an eyeliner, not a shadow. But it is the only eyeliner I will wear. It can go on dry for soft lining or wet for a more bold look. My favorite color is Humor which is a black color with gold highlights. It was only found as part of a kit so again, you will have to buy it on Ebay.
