Having owned, and still own, 4 Bel brand radar detectors, I feel somewhat qualified to make the following comments.  3 of the 4 units I have, two mocel 985's and one 995, went bad within the first 15 months of use.  Bel repaired the first two, even though bought on Ebay, with no question when I submitted a copy of the sales printout.  However, the last one, a 985, has been rejected and they are wanting $85.00 for repairs.  One of the reps I spoke with basically called me a liar when I told her they were still factory sealed and assured her they were new when purchased.  The service manager has failed to return calls after leaving multiple messages regarding this issue.  I have had other brand detectors in years past and NEVER had the problems that I have had with Bel detectors.  You may pay a bit more for Passport or some other brand, but you may also get better and more courteous service.  Bel's warranty on their website tells you that the warranty is valid for those units purchased directly from BelTronics or authorized seller at their much higher prices.
