Just a few words here for the novice buyer of spinning fishing reels.Make sure the seller says the bail action is strong or reel functions perfectly.Spring action frequently can be fixed by applying some very fine oil (like gun oil) at the bail spring. If possible try to compare pictures of 2 of the same reel.Be sure to look at the bail mounting screws and gear cover plate screws.Ask them if they have checked the gears by reeling slowly in both directions. Also the anti-reverse should be checked for slippage.Look closely at the drag knob and inspect it for cracks. This can be common on some older reels.
Also ask if the reel had any sand under the spool. This is a very common occurrence with larger surf reels. If you are looking for a "mint" condition reel - a tell tale sign is to look at the reel foot.If it has paint chips - even small ones ...then the reel has at least been mounted on a fishing rod.To see my ebay page for troutnsalmon...........see "about me"
