One of my favorite designers is Heidi Daus. As many of you are aware that have purchased Heidi Daus jewelry in the past, many items are not strung correctly and are sometimes sold in this condition.
Many of these items I am speaking of can be brand new. They are not packed correctly at the factory and in transit they incur repairable damage.
Most Heidi Daus necklaces are strung on fine cord. The problem with this is through transit, pieces that have large pendants, the cord stretches and there is an unsightly gap throughout the beads or directly where the necklace attaches. If this is not repaired there is a chance the item will break with beads scattered everywhere.
Before purchasing a Heidi Daus piece of jewelry study the photographs to ensure the piece has not been damaged in transit. If you cannot tell from the photographs send the seller a question with regards to this.
If you purchase a piece as a gift and need to mail the item, do not wrap any part of the necklace on velvet board. The weight will cause the cord to stretch. Add tissue paper to the box and them pad all areas completely around the necklace. Make sure you include enough tissue paper to ensure when you close the lid the piece will not move around. Then place the box into a larger box and encompass the box holding the Heidi Daus necklace in packing peanuts or tissue paper.
If you own a Heidi Daus necklace with the aftorementioned problems all is not lost! This item can be professional restrung and the piece will look exactly the same. This can be a costly process depending on the type of necklace so always insure the item is in perfect condtion before purchase.
