Before you click "Buy it Now" on that Sony PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 (Slim) you see listed, beware, you may be getting an old PSP!
Right now, there are many listings for Sony PSP-3000 consoles (as well as PSP-2000 consoles), but when you open the listing, the picture is actually of a PSP-1000 (the Fat PSP), which is what you'll be getting. Some of the auctions clearly state in the description that the PSP is a 1000 series, but still have the misleading title "PSP 3000" which is fraudulent. There are also auctions with "PSP 2000" in the title, and even "Piano Black", yet they are selling an old PSP-1000, which never came in "piano black" color (only one color for the PSP-1000 was released in the USA, so Sony did not give a name for this color, it just looks black). The PSP 1000, 2000, and 3000 all look the same unless you know exactly what to look for, it's not like the DS and the DS Lite which look very different.
If the description is vague or generic, it's probably a scam, and even high feedback sellers are putting out the wrong models (possibly because they don't know the difference or don't care).
You can tell exactly which model it is by looking at the picture very closely, I've highlighted the differences below. Hopefully you can see the images, they were resized automatically.
Visual Differences (from the front):
PSP 1000 has the two speaker holes on the bottom, near the bottom corners of the LCD screen
PSP 2000 and 3000 have moved these speaker holes to the top corners of the LCD screen
PSP 1000 and 2000 have PlayStation logo on the top left, and the word SONY on the top right
PSP 3000 has the word SONY on the top left, and *no* logo on the top right
PSP 1000 and 2000 have "Home", "Start", and "Select" buttons shaped like cereal bowls
PSP 3000 has "Logo", "Start", and "Select" buttons shaped like ovals
PSP 1000 was only available in "black" in the USA
PSP 2000 is available in Ice Silver (Daxter), Piano Black, Ceramic White (Star Wars), Deep Red (God of War), and Metallic Blue (Madden) in the USA
PSP 3000 is available in Mystic Silver (Ratchet & Clank), and "black" in the USA
