Hi Everyone. I want to start out by saying that although I am not a seasoned coin collector or dealer, i do have common sense and alot of it. I have recently started my coin collecting hobby and am focusing on silver proof sets. However, I noticed that the 1999 SILVER PROOF SET is the most expensive of the State Quarter program sets. With that being said, I have noticed in my browsing e-bay auctions for these sets, that there are many so called dealers and collectors that are selling the PACKAGING AND COA for these items WITHOUT the coins.
This tells me that some people are encouraging others to buy these packagings and COA's so that they can put in subquality coins (definitely NOT SILVER ) into the SILVER PROOF SETS and offer them to unsuspecting buyers like you and I. I ask you, could you, as an average collector, tell the difference between a regular PROOF set from a SILVER PROOF SET if they were switched from packaging? I know I wouldn't.
Just remember, they are selling the packaging along with the COA. I would suggest that if anyone wants an original 1999 Silver Proof Set, just be careful because based on what I've seen being sold for this particular item. you may be getting ripped off and just might be receiving a regular 1999 proof set that was placed into a SILVER PROOF PACKAGE along with the ORIGINAL GOVERNMENT PACKAGING and COA. It is a shame that in instances like this, we have to worry about getting what we pay for, it takes away the fun and excitement of doing business on ebay. Buy from reputable dealers, and good ebaying.
