I've been making soap and lotions for about fourteen years and bath bombs for the last three years. Have you ever laid awake at night unable to sleep because your skin was so dry and itchy that you just couldn't stand it? That was me three years ago before I discovered bath bombs, I'm sure that a lot of my problem was the hot baths that I liked to take. But I just couldn't give them up, nothing feels better than a long hot soak in the winter and with bath bombs you won't have to give up the hot soak in the tub.
A bath bomb, also called a fizzie is a round scented ball that when placed in water will bubble and fizz scenting and coloring the bath water.
A bath bomb is mostly made of Citric Acid (Vitamin C) and Sodiumn Bicarbonate (baking soda). Bath Bombs can also contain oils and butters along with herbs, corn starch, sea salts or epsom salts, glitter, Fragrance, or Essential oils along color.
How they work, When dropped into water the baking soda and citric acid form an acid base reaction releasing carbon dioxide and water. This creates the "fizzing" action and makes the water feel effervescent while the reaction takes place.
What to look for in a bath bomb, Bath bombs when properly made can be very soothing and relaxing as welll as extremely moisturizing for your skin. Some ingredients to look for in a moisturizing bath bomb are Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Jojoba Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. There are other oils and butters that may also do equally well, but after several years of testing this combination works the best for me.
