Hi there new shopper:
This is not a novel to teach you how to spot fake Coach on the Internet. Ebay has plenty of authors of guides to tell you how to do that. My goal is to call your attention to the things that you would notice about real Coach items. Many of you are new to buying Coach and don't know some of the small things that can aid you greatly in making a decision to buy an item. Some of the things that I think are important are listed below:
1. Be sure to read the bid ad carefully. Make sure that you take the time to really review the description of the item. Many times people miss very important pieces of information. For example, if the item is new or used, is it listed as "like new", which would mean that it is in excellent used condition. Look to see if the seller describes any defects about the item.
2. Make sure the pictures are clear. One disadvantage to shopping the internet sometimes is that we don't get a chance to touch or see the item up front and close. The only thing that we can rely on is adequate pictures. When purchasing small accessories, it is not necessary for the seller to have lots of pictures. So, look for the logos in the photo and make sure that they are visible. If the items are larger items, look for or ask for more pictures.
3. Coach items always have the logo embossed on them. However, many counterfeiters have learned this also. So, the next best thing to rely on is a seller who offers a retail tag and a gift receipt. There are two kinds of retail tags that Coach offers. The retail tag that comes from the Full Price Coach Store, and the retail tag that comes from the Coach Outlet Store. The retail full price store tag will be square and on one side, will have the Coach lozenge logo (unless it's been cut off by the store clerk when purchased) and the style number and other information will be on the other side. The outlet tag is all white folding tag that says Coach Factory on both outer folding sides and has a tiny Coach lozenge logo in the lower right hand corner. On the other side of it, it also has the style number and name of the item. However, it will have the factory store price and the MFSRP Price, which is the full price store retail price. This is normally not visible because the tag is once again cut off by the store clerk or the seller.
4. Look to see if a gift receipt is offered. A gift receipt is as close to a guarantee of authenticity as you can get. It contains a lot of information that you can verify by telephone. At the top of the receipt, it has the Coach Outlet or store information where the item was purchased and that stores telephone number. It will give you the store number, register number, operator, associate, item description/name, style number, quantity, tax rate, transaction number and date of purchase and time of purchase.
5. Ask questions before you purchase!!! Don't bid on something and then as question later. You are actually entering into a contract to purchase when you bid and win an item.
6. Look at the sellers terms. Make sure that you understand what is required. For example, some sellers require that you pay for your item within 24 hours, 2 days through 7 days. Make sure that you understand what is required.
7. Pay attention to shipping charges. If the charges are unreasonable, move on to another seller. Be sure to ask seller about shipping alternatives. Don't be afraid to ask.
Lastly, I find that many bidders will ask if an item is authentic. Yes to this question does not mean that it is. However, if you follow the basics given above, you should have a positive experience. I don't have all of the answers, but I think that sometimes the basics are all that is necessary. Happy shopping!!!!
