For just over $100 the Audio Technica 440mLa is simply awesome. Easy to set up, rides deep in the grooves to dramatically reducing surface noise and increasing detail, and has very nice tonality. If you don't think my play grade is fair, do yourself a favor and get this cart. This is almost as good as the Shure V15, which was THE standard best buy for audiophiles until they stopped making them, and that retailed over $300.
I have no affiliation with Audio Technica, I'm just trying to pass on a great tip.
Other carts I've used:
Shure V15 (tracked perfectly, but was not as detailed as the AT 440MLa)
Grado Platinum (tracks poorly, does not read vocals well)
Grado Black (a fair deal for $40)
