It is fun to collect barbies , but it can be confusing and hard to know what to buy and when. The best way to find out if a barbie is valuable is to get several of the guide books offered either on E-Bay or at your local bookstore. With guide book in hand, you can browse on line and find out what you are looking for and estimated value.
Remember, the key to collecting is you really like and want the item and you think it has long lasting value for a resale later on. Here is what to look for when collecting Barbies
Black label on dresses usually means it is a vintage dress from 1958 to around 1969. These are very limited and sometimes hard to find and have shown to hold value over time.
Vintage dolls are always a good collecting investment, but it should have the print of when made on the right buttox of the doll, and sometimes a number on the left buttox. If these markings are not mattel and dated, they are not genuine barbies. Vintage barbies do not have markings on back ofhead, but inside the rim if head is taken off.
Comtemporary barbies are usually marked on the head and the buttox and can be different places on the buttox as well. Usually the markings on the head are on the back behind the hair.
Contemporary barbie clothes are also good investment but will have barbie markings in dfferent colors, not black label, and usually have the velcro closures.
Hope this helps to start collecting and enjoying your Barbie purchases, they are such good quality and beautiful to collect. They have proven to be a solid collectors dream and also fun.
Hope this was helpful, thanks for looking.
