Controversy of Barbie?
So many controversies over the value of Barbie in our society. I often want to take a second look when there is a controversy over something. To my surprize I have found a majority of the time the product or situation is a good one. ( Not all the time).
I have six girls, all of who are girly girls. They love fashion. They love to play dress up and love to dress up for real when going to an appropriate event.
Thank you Mattel!
I applaud the Mattel company for the Barbie line. I have been able to teach my girls so much about the history of fashion and many other subjects through the play of Barbie. We have a large selection of the vintage Barbie's and clothes. They are so fascinated as to what was being worn in the different decades. They are also able to discover so much about themselves as they pretend to have different careers with the Barbie's.
Thank you Ruth Handler for having the for thought of the future of our little girls.
A New Adventure Every Time !
I know of no other toy that inspires so much for little girls. As girls travel in play to places unknown and experiences that may seem unreachable. Their imagination sets them free to explore the unlimited possibilities. They are able to act out their dreams and desires. This promotes our girls to think about their future and think about the avenues they want to take.
My girls can play with their Barbie's and accessories for hours on end. Every time it's a whole new experience for them.
Barbie's Body.
I really do not want to expound on the whole issue of Barbie's body, but I will say this. Why not let your daughter play with a doll that is beautiful. Barbie's body is very realistic for a young lady of her portrayed age and does not have to take away from your own childs self-esteem.
The awareness of differences should be a continuous conversation so when our girls meet people who are different (or if they look different )they can feel special and know that it means nothing more than" they look different".
True beauty comes from within. As little girls play with their Barbie's ( or dolls) They make the doll beautiful by how they play with it. The body and face are just props.
Buying A Barbie.
Buying a Barbie for your daughter is a great experience because it gives you an opportunity to really explore you childs interest.
Let her pick out the Barbie she likes. Over time add clothes and accessories to the collection as she expresses her interest in things. If she has a hobby purchase accessories that relate to her hobby. Perhaps buy an out fit that looks similar to one of hers.
I let my children take Barbie clothes that have tears or stains and make new clothes for their Barbie. They often make their own accessories and furniture for their Barbie.
I will add a Disney Barbie now and again. This absolutly thrills them because they know the movie and it gives them a story to start with, then watch out because their imagination goes wild as they explore their own stories with that character.
Barbie, A Cost Effective Toy.
I find that Barbie is a very low cost toy in comparison to the value we get from her. Most of the toys I have purchased over the years I can't wait to get rid of because the girls only play with them once or twice.
Barbie hasn't lost their attention yet, and maybe if they do get tired of playing with them someday they will know enough about them that they can start a small business selling them ( Like their Mommy has).
