This 1950's grocery store was a blast to make. It is called Lucy's Groceries. I looked up inspiration by Googling pictures of grocery stores from the period -- I fell in love with the poster of meat and vegetable crate labels. So I printed up a bunch of those on photo paper. Then I started collecting for the store: the "vegetable" station is part of an old donut shop. I painted it white and found the scale which I glued on. The crates are actually full of vegetables for 1:12 scale -- if you think about it, they are a little small for Barbie, but playsclae fruit/veggies are either hideously expensive or ridiculously ugly (hollow plastic with seams showing). I plan one day to make my own stuff from Fimo, but not today.
The floor is contact paper. The register (and the yellow stacking shelves) are from this vintage Barbie playset from Germany. I found the grocery carts on a website for office supplies -- their scale is perfect.
