At least twice a year I do a very indepth diorama. This was my winter 2007 project. I call it Jack's Jazz Joint. I wanted the feel of a cool club with a musical vibe.
The most intricate piece is the bar which started out as a bar from the Bratz Hollywood Palace. It had this very ugly canopy which looked like tropical thatching. I cut off a bunch of pieces, painted it and then got to work.
Across the top of the bar is a piece of balsa wood which I carved to include notches for hanging bar glasses.
The liquor shelf is actually two Gloria liquor cabinets put together (painted first, of course). The two retro sofas are Jason Wu (as is the coffee table). The picture is actually a piece of fabric which I stretched over a balsa wood frame. If you look in the deep corner, I also turned a french horn into a lamp (the lamp and the light above the bar are both working lights -- hanging fixtures for a 1:12 dollhouse). The harlequin chair was a plastic picture frame which I recovered. I sewed the black and red satin into the design and then used batting and glue to do the rest.
