I've come across many auctions where the seller will have a question mark after the word Bakelite, not really knowing whether it is Bakelite or Simply Plastic.  This applies to Vintage Kitchen Utensils as well as Vintage Jewelry.  To take the Mystery out of Bakelite, all you will need is a can of "Lysol Basin Tub & Tile Cleaner Foam Spray"  and a WHITE Paper Towel.   Spray a little bit of foam on your piece of jewelry or utensil, then proceed to wipe the spray off on to the White Paper Towel, if the piece leaves a Distinct YELLOW Coloring behind, you have yourself a True Piece of Bakelite.  Knowing this little trick, you can now put the word "tested" in your auctions rather than a question mark.  Hope this helps!
