Almost everyone who knows even the slightest thing about Xbox 360 knows what the Red Ring Of Death is. And have no problem buying a Xbox 360 with the RROD or a refurbished RROD. Most people steer clear of consoles that have Dvd Problems. I am going to explain to you why buying a Xbox 360 with drive problems or has been refurbished due to drive problems is the better way to go. And if you have an Xbox 360 with a bad dvd drive what to do before buying a new Xbox 360.
When you see the Open Tray after inserting a game, or please insert an XBOX 360 Game after you have already placed one in there you know you have a drive problem. It could also be that the disc is not spinning or the tray will not close all of the way or gets stuck. It is funny to me how people stay away from fixing or purching these consoles. First of all the repairs made to a dvd drive are more reliable than fixing rrod, E-74 etc. Most of the time they do not require buying a whole new drive. Sometimes they are just lasers that need cleaned or replaced. You will find that with Open Tray or Insert Xbox 360 disc. Sometimes it is the spindle. If you put a disc in and you do not hear it spin that is most likely the cause. Once you figure out which part is bad it is a pretty simple fix normally. And sometimes the drive just needs a good cleaning.
If you are buying a refurbished Xbox 360 that has drive problems those are going to last longer than one that has had overheating issues. Once a console overheats even doing a reflow there is no guarantee. But with a dvd problem let's say the laser need to be replaced, once you replace it problem solved.
If you own an Xbox 360 that the drive has gone bad talk to some people that do those types of repairs. Most of the time it is cheaper to have it fixed than to buy a new console. Don't stick with the first person you talk to. Shop around. Talk with them. You will know pretty quickly if they do this alot and know what they are talking about. Question them! If they say you need a whole new drive ask why they can't just replace the part. But keep in mind Sometimes the part may cost close to what a new drive would cost.
Keep these things in mind when buying a refurbished Xbox 360 or fixing yours and you will be just fine!
