I was searching for the right baby gates to keep my crawling toddler safe, when I realized I could use the Wal-mart pool (hard plastic--larger size) as a safe place where he can play.
So far this has worked out marvelous. In-doors, I just place a soft blanket and his favorite toys inside the pool, and he is content to play for hours, which leaves me with piece of mind, and a hugh amount of hands free time to complete my necessary chores for the day. I am still interacting with my child, however, I eliminated the time I spend chasing him all over the living room/dining room and kitchen. It also makes a great reading area....we love to read...4 or 5 books a day.
Then when it is hot, I just take the pool outback, fill it with water, and we both really enjoy our swimming lessons....more like splashing lessons :)--after swimming--just rinse out the pool/make sure it is dry, and it is ready for indoor play again.
The total cost of the pool was $30.00. Keep in mind, my child is 6 months old, and is currently in the crawling and rolling stage. He is not walking. When my child starts walking, I will need to purchase something more age appropriate to keep him safe.
Please remember, I always keep an eye on my child, in every play situation. However, the indoor pool idea seems to give me more piece of mind, and give him a safe structured environment, to roam and play.
