We recently had our first baby. We quickly found out just how difficult it gets keeping up with the demands of family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc). Everyone want more pictures constantly!  Our family is spread out from 1 end of the country to the other and time is not a luxury we have right now.  Emailing the photos was an option, but that seemed to take up just as much time as we were constantly teaching everyone how to open the pictures, print the pictures, or deciding which pictures to send to which people.

Our solution: An online baby photo album!  This worked out great and solved many issues!  Our son has his own domain name (ww.hisname.com). We can easily update our photos regularly.  We never risk losing original photos.  We aren't finding space to store filled up photo albums. And best of all, sharing his photos with family is simple now!  We just told them to go to ww.hisname.com.  Our family knows that we update his pics regularly, so they just check his site every week and print the ones they want!

It's great, they can also leave comments corresponding to his pics right there on his site!

We've also realized another great benefit!  The album grows with him! There's no limit to the amount of galleries within the album. We create galleries by the month (ex. January 2006, etc).  Several years down the road, he'll have photos available from every step of his life!

We've explored cheaper avenues, but quickly realizing that free hosting services dont offer cgi-bin and php, and mysql database functionality, which is necessary for a gallery of this nature.
