Baby Jumpers have not improved much in the past 12-years. I got one when my daughter was only 7-months old. It looked safe, the clerk who sold me the item made by Graco, stated it was safe. The Company put their reputation on it. I came home, with daughter in hand, I mounted it according to the directions, placed my daughter in side. Then proceeded to make diner for the 3 of us. AS the water was boiling on the stove. I heard a loud clang. I turned in that direction to find one startled baby. She was standing on her feet, as the overhead clamp had come undone from the overhead door frame. My wife who was sick at the time, screamed out what happened. I rushed to my daughter who now began to cry. Needless to say, I called Graco the next day, it took several hours only to have someone say they were sorry for the scaring of my daughter, and they would send out coupons to best rest assured they would look into it.
If you plan on getting a Baby Jumper, look for the kind that has holes drilled into the clamps, so that you can mount it permanently into the overhead door frame. Once I had done that the Baby Jumper was safe and secure. But my daughter never again wanted to be in one. She would have a fit. Even after I showed her that it supported my own weight of over 180-lbs. nope dad, you get in was the look. Eventually the baby jumper found it's way into the trash can.
I have seen a few models out there, but the only thing I can say, with a clear conscience to anyone is get a model that is safe and has two-holes drilled so as too permanently mount it to the over head door.
Graco, has assured me they would look into this 12-years ago, but as to date, I have not seen any holes drilled into the clamp ends.
