Baby Gate Safety
If your baby gate is not new it's best to do a little research on it's safety.
Please beware buying or borrowing a used baby safety gate! Older models are not always up to this year's laws and regulations. Keep in mind those laws and regulations can change on a year
to year basis. Manufacturers are obligated to stay up with these new regulations, but your neighbor down the street is not! One way to stay up on these new laws and regulations yourself is to register your product or register it's warranty with the manufacturer. Once you are registered you
will receive notification by email or mail of any recalls on the product or new information for upgraded hardware, etc. If you have a baby gate you bought a few years ago, contact the manufacturer with model number to inquire about current usage guidelines (model number should be stamped or printed on the product) you can also look it up and see if there is any CPSC recall attached to the product.
Also consider: will you use a pressure-mounted gate? Or a hardware-mounted gate? Pressure mounted gates are less expensive and are just as safe as permanent gates; if they weren't, they
wouldn't be sold in the United States! The limit to pressure mounted gates is that you have to put them up and down constantly, OR step over them! Pressure-mounted gates can tear up drywall, texture and paint jobs, due to the repetitive motion of putting up and taking down. Permanently mounted gates, though making holes in your walls are actually less damaging to these
areas. They can be easily repaired, even years later, and retextured and repainted.
Baby gates, when used correctly, are excellent tools for busy parents. Follow all mounting and/or installation instructions. If lost or unreadable, most instructions are available online. Be sure to follow all specifications for use and storage.
