If you are in the market for a used baby bath, make sure you do your homework first!
Things to check for:
look at the pictures. check for straps (if applicable) that use baby nets in the bath tub for wear! I thought about this as I was bathing my baby. I thought of wow, she has almost outgrown this and here is anything thing to ebay! However, mine is only a few months old. But it made me think of this review. I thought what if I bought a used baby bath and the straps were worn out but not very noticable. This could be a death trap! The way mine works is that baby lays in a "hammock" and is only partially covered in water. When baby is older, the hammock is no longer needed. It's one of those grow with baby tubs. But the most crucial times are when baby is so young and if the straps were in bad shape, it could end up scary!! I always drained mine as soon as I use it to prevent from typical water nusiances (mold, etc.). Wear can occur from bigger babies (weight on the straps), a tub's age, and from storing the tub in humid places (storage, garages, etc.).
Check for accuracy!
I have noticed in my years of buying and selling used/new merchandise that people's view of the quality of an item vary like night and day! One person's vision of "gently used" can be different to another's view.
I would highly recommend only buying one from a trusted seller. Also check out the pictures. the more pics, the better! Some sellers only show partial pic's of baby items. This is a clear "stay away" pic! They are only showing you some of the item! Maybe they have something to hide?
Now, don't get me wrong. Some pics are better than others. However, match up the pic's with the ad description and check for poorly described feedback left for the seller.
Back to the baby tub. I paid about $40 for mine. Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Infant Tub. The bath was cuter more than in was sensible to have, lol! I went by the style. The bath has a part that digs into baby's back when in hammock. I have to put a towel under the hammock to support her back. Can you imagine taking a bath on a hard surface stabbing you in the back? So much for sensible, eh?
So not only did I drop $40 on this pretty tub I have to add to it to make it comfortable for baby! The hard part that I am refering too is the molded part where baby later sits up, underneath the hammock.
It's cute and no doubt matched our other baby items in this theme. But... I should of went for another one. I have found that the plainest baby tubs are not only safer, but it's all you need! Plus baby's are not cheap! Safe your money on the tub and buy some formula and diapers with the extra dough you will save yourself!
