This article has been written to help Sisters who are new to the original mona hijab understand the difference between the original mona hijab and the kuwaiti hijab as many sellers on ebay and other online hijab shops are sellling the kuwaiti hijab as the mona hijab.
THE KUWAITI HIJAB
The Kuwaiti hijab is a one piece hijab that has an underscarf with scarf/shayla attached to it. The kuwaiti hijab has a tube shaped underscarf with an attached peak. The underscarf is cut and sewn with the sides parallel to each other, much like a rectangle. Therefore when it is worn, the underscarf covers the neck area but does not flare out over the shoulders. The attached scarf/shayla on the Kuwaiti hijab is attached to the underscarf under the chin.
THE ORIGINAL MONA HIJAB
The mona hijab is a one piece hijab, and basically consists of an underscarf that is a smaller version of a one piece al-amira hijab with a scarf sewn along the seam of the peak on top of the underscarf. When the underscarf is slipped onto the head, the attached scarf falls naturally into place and only has to be wrapped once under the chin and the top of the head. You can then either pin it to the other side or tuck it under the chin. The fabric we use for the underscarf is non-slip and will stay in place. The original mona hijab has a wider underscarf than the kuwaiti hijab and does go over across the shoulders.
Both hijabs are one piece hijabs that consists of an underscarf with an attached scarf/shayla but as stated above there are differences in the way the underscarves are shaped and where the scarves are attached to them. The kuwaiti hijab is the more widely available hijab while we remain the only sellers of the original mona hijab in the United States. We invite you to try one of our original mona hijabs and see the difference for yourself.
