Question: What is keyless entry?

A keyless entry system allows you to remotely lock and unlock your vehicle from a distance using a transmitter ("remote") you clip on your keyring.   Some systems allow you to also remotely unlock the trunk or rear hatch.  Some also have a "panic" function which allows you to activate the vehicles alarm system.  This is helpful for personal security, and will also aid you in locating your vehicle in a parking lot, for example.

Question: How does it work?

The keychain transmitter "talks" to your vehicle by sending a radio signal to your vehilces keyless entry "receiver".  Once the receiver recognizes your transmitter signal, the receiver instructs the power locks to unlock, for example.

Question: I just bought a used vehicle and it didn't come with a remote....does it have keyless entry?

Most modern vehicles do, espeically if they have power windows.  But, to be sure you may call your local dealer and ask them.  Most times they can look up your "vin" number in the computer to determine if your vehicle was built with a keyless entry system.  So have your "vin" number handy. You can find it by looking through the lower driver's side of your windshield, or on the ID plate usually on the driver's door jamb.  Also, you can find your "vin" number on your title or liscense plate registration.
