Buyer Beware Of Shipping Charges
So you’ve found the perfect item on eBay? It’s exactly what you are looking for. Ready to hit submit button? Think again! Be sure to look at the shipping charges before submitting your bid.
I recently found the perfect ice skating dress for my granddaughter on eBay. The price was reasonable and I was going to submit a bid when I noticed the shipping was $25 within the United States. I have bought several ice skating outfits (which usually only weigh a few ounces) on eBay and the shipping was never more than $5 priority mail. I emailed the seller ( love_magic777 ) and asked if there were any other shipping options available. USPS offer priority shipping and free packaging for any items that will fil in its flat rate box (the box would hold 4 or 5 ice skating outfits) for $3.85 to ANYWAHERE IS THE U.S.
well this seller emailed me back and said no cheaper shipping rates were available. She also told me she charges high shipping to make more money and avoid eBay fees. Hmmmm.
The eBay use policy clearly states it is a violation of eBay rules to charge excessive shipping nad to charge excesive shipping to avoid fees. I emailed eBay and they said it is a violation of their policy and “they are working on it.” This one seller alone has more than 100 ice skating outfits listed—you guessed it—the shipping on each is $25. I’m sure there are 1,000’s more sellers like her out there.
Fortunately I noticed the $25 BEFORE I bid so I didn’t get hosed but other people probably will. The sellers running these shipping scams are hurting buyers and other sellers alike.
