I'm sure this isn't the only bootleg anime DVD guide on eBay but there can never be too many, especially when people continue to be fooled and buy them!
BUYER BEWARE
STAY AWAY FROM ANIME DVDs THAT...- Are region free
All official DVDs will have a region, 1 for North American releases or 2 for Japanese. NEVER under any circumstance purchase a DVD that is region free (aka region 0), or "plays on all DVD players." - Include Chinese subtitles
No official releases include Chinese subtitles, unless it's region 3. - Are sold by sellers from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, or Malaysia.
These places are a haven for bootleggers and you're going to be receiving a bootleg 10 times out of 10. But don't be fooled. Sellers in the U.S. also sell bootlegs. - Have a Malaysian government seal
The seal means nothing. It's a bootleg. - Contain more than 5 episodes per disc
If it's got 6 or more episodes per disc, it's guaranteed to be a bootleg. You're going to get highly compressed episodes with horrible picture quality as a result of the compression. - Contain episodes close (3 months or less) to the current broadcast episode
It takes a long time for DVDs to be released in Japan and there is no way a legit DVD release can be only 5 episodes behind the TV broadcast. (Nor is it likely that a legit non-Japanese DVD release be ahead of the Japanese release.) The source of the video you will be receiving will probably be from TV. - Contain "ENG DUB" or "Perfect Collection" in the title of the auction listing
These will 99.9999% of the time be bootleg listings. Sellers of bootlegs often write listing titles in all caps, and/or include the phrases "Eng Dub," "Eng Audio," "Eng Sub," or "Perfect Collection." In ALL cases, if the DVD contains an English dub track but is region 0/free, IT IS A BOOTLEG. - State that the DVDs are "factory pressed" and not homemade in the description
This doesn't prove the DVDs are legit at all. In fact, it tells you the opposite. A listing for an official release wouldn't have to tell you that the DVDs are factory pressed, and it's not like bootleggers don't have factories of their own. - Seem too good for the price
If you think you're getting too good of a deal, there's probably a reason for it (ie. because it's a bootleg). - Are complete series/multiple seasons of really long series
If you're getting multiple/all the seasons of long series such as InuYasha, BLEACH, Naruto, Ranma 1/2, or Sailor Moon, you'll most likely be receiving bootlegs. Bootleggers like to sell series in complete sets. Though there are official full-series releases, if it's region free, it's a bootleg.
