Building a Custom Guitar from parts available on ebay is an exciting, fun and financially savvy experience. Ebay stores such Tricked Out Guitar can supply the guitar building enthusiast with a myriad of parts with nearly endless possibilities for the custom built guitar of your dreams. I suggest you start with a Strat Body and Neck. Mightymite makes some very nice bodies and necks that are very affordable. Next add your parts according to the color you choose. Chrome is the most common and will go with any color body and is generally understated. Gold is used for a more stated appearance and has a more expensive look. Black hardware can be used for effect or to mute the appearance of the hardware altogether. I have selectively mixed chrome and gold or chrome and black on the same guitar on say tuning gears with the body of the gear being chrome and the button gold or black. You could use chrome parts and accent with gold or black screws. Get the idea? Hardware colors. Once you have decided on hardware color you can then get more detailed with the particulars. Next i would pick a bridge. do you want a vintage style bridge such as the Wilkinson WV6SB with steel block or something more modern and cutting edge such as the revolutionary new Trem-King fixed bridge vibrato system which miraculously stays in tune without the typical annoying locking mechanisms.Bridges. Next I would Decide if I want to go with a Prewired Pickguard which are EXTREMELY cost effective or if I want to wire up my own with my own combination of Pickups and Electronics choosing items that will achieve the tonal and aesthetic characteristics i am seeking. Also i feel obligated to mention some amazing tone shaping products such as the "Tonestyler" from Stellartone and the "Redeemer" by Creation Audio Labs. The Tonestyler is a precision 16 preset tone pot replacement which gives you 14 usable and musical presets and 2 bypass modes to rid yourself of the crappy tone control on nearly all guitars.Tonestyler. The Redeemer restores tone loss due to the load placed on your pickups by wiring and so forth. It works especially well on humbucking pickups and the clarity and tone it restores is astounding. If you are looking to add something special to you dream ax then you might consider both of these products. Tuning keys are an important piece of the guitar puzzle and the choices are many but keep in mind that the major difference from one to the next is mainly the shape of the button which can add some flare to your headstock. Last i would consider some cool Knobs as this adds much style and flare to your finished guitar.  There is not enough room in this guide to get into the actual technicalities of putting all your parts together but there are numerous excellent books available to guide you through the process from start to finish.
