This is just so funny that I can't even do anything but tell the story. A few years ago, my friend, a chef told me that her cell phone fell off of the clip while she was in the bathroom, and her phone fell into the toilet and got wet and ruined. I asked her why on earth she had brought it with her? and we laughed. Like most of us, we don't want to miss a thing, a text, a call, etc.
Her phone was about $300, and of course another $300 to get another one. Our phones are our lifelines, with everyone's numbers inside, and of course 95% of us, don't have those numbers written anywhere else. So she was more careful with the new one, and that was that. And I never brought my phone into the bathroom, until last week.
I was rushing out the door, late because people were waiting for me. So I decided to go to the bathroom one more time, and brush my teeth. I took the phone off of the bed, stuck it into my workout pants pocket, and went to the bathroom. I went, flushed, and was brushing my teeth, and while I looked quickly at the flushing toilet, I saw a little black thing getting flushed away.
Not only did I never hear it fall in and splash, when I was looking at it, I wasn't even aware that it was my phone - at first. When it clicked in my head, I was trying to save my sim card but it was gone. The chances of that falling into the toilet are about 1 in a million, but to have the phone facing in the direction of straight up versus sideways so that it would fit in the flush part are about one in a trillion.
So I was in shock for a few minutes, laughing, swearing, etc, and what are you going to do? I took the plunger and tried to stop the flush action, but it was gone, all addresses and everything. I was then all flustered, out of my mind, and instead of my intended plans for the night, I had to go to the cell phone store and buy another phone that night. So I arrive at the store, and have to tell the guy that my phone is in the sewer somewhere, my numbers, secrets, texts, photos, etc, and it's bye bye, and he is laughing. And he tells me that we should get me a phone big enough so in case I do that again, it can't get flushed because it won't fit. And I told him that I must be losing my mind, that I need a watch dog, and and 2 people on phone duty to follow me around so that I don't lose my phone.
It's been 2 days, and I am still shaking my head, and laughing, and I really did expect that the phone would have not made it out of the whole system, and come falling back into the toilet. And not that I would be happy taking that out, but that sim card of 5 years worth of addresses was like a life line. And after 2 days and many flushes - no return of my phone, it's really gone.
So the moral of this story is to realize that we never used to talk on the phone in the bathroom, take the phone with us in the bathroom, fit our phone in our pockets while we went to the bathroom, and even though the chances of anyone else doing this are better than my 2 for 2 loss of it falling, and then falling in the right flushing direction, this is avoidable for anyone that reads this guide. And while I have done some unreal things in my day, this could have been the crowning moment. I think I need a sash - when most people's sash would say Miss America, mine would say either Miss Missing A Lightbulb, or Miss 2 for 2 Odds, or just plain, Learn from This sash. And small phones do really fit down those pipes.
My story made everyone around me laugh all weekend, and everyone could just imagine trying to save that phone when you don't even want it back. I have only input a few of the numbers back, this will take all week to do it again, and this time, I am making a list somewhere of all of these numbers so that I don't have to do so much homework trying to find everyone's numbers. And the guy at the phone store had heard for several unreal stories about what happened to phones, they fell off a jetski, the got run over, wet in the rain, dropped and lost, but noone in his 2 years of working at the cell phone store had flushed theirs down the toilet.
