With the addition of BMX racing to the 2008 Olympics, bmx has become a very popular sport. My kids have been bmx racing for over 10 years now. Occasionally I sell some of the parts on Ebay for them or for our friends as they outgrow items or upgrade to newer parts & accessories. I thought that this would be a great opportunity for me to share a little bit of knowledge that I have gained since we are so active in the sport.

I got my kids into this sport for a couple of reasons:

1) Its a great form of exercise-they have to ride a bike!

2) It teaches them competition-they race against all the other kids that are roughly the same age and skill level that they are.

3) They meet new friends from all over the US (and if you travel or are into the National scene, you are exposed to kids from other countries as well)

There are people selling bmx parts on Ebay all the time.

Please make sure when you are purchasing items from them that you ask all the questions you can about the parts or accesssories that you are looking at, for example:

1) Is the item new or used?

2) Any damage to the item (bent/broken/cracked)?

3) Does the seller know if it would interchange with what you are trying to put it on? If they dont, they should know where to send you to find out that information.

4) The listing should have all the explicit information on it pertaining to the part or item-if the listing just says, used frame and there is no other information, they may have stolen the item and know nothing about it-there ARE those types of instances so be sure the listing has all information on it-that way you know the person knows what they are selling and it is a legatimate listing.

5) How old is the bike/part/accessory? Vintage? Vintage items are also sold on Ebay so alot of people building up old bikes or collectors will list their items as vintage.

6) Shipping costs-please know that you can find out the shipping information on anything yourself-dont pay overinflated prices on shipping for any bmx part/bike/accessory. You can ask the seller a question, find out the exact specifics on weight, height, etc. and go to usps.com or ups.com to get a quote on shipping. Alot of people overinflate the cost to ship an item and there is no reason for it. You should be paying the "exact" cost to ship it to you and with this knowledge of how to look up shipping costs, you will never be overcharged again!

If you think you may be interested in bmx racing, you can find some great information at ababmx.com-there you can find a local track, see schedules of all types of races (local & national level), cost to race &/or join.

If there is even 1 item in my guide that has been helpful to you, please vote yes on it! Thank you for taking the time to read it and hope to see you at the races!
